Three years ago the leader of a 25 person team of subject matter experts situated across location and countries initiated a transformation journey to evolve the teams operating model.
The team lead was seeking to make insight led decisions to ensure he provided the best support for his team through this process and understood how far and well the transformation progressed over time.
The challenge was to identify the metrics and insights that would best support understanding the journey and informing the support to be provided to team members.
Establish the measures to help us understand change and the questions that would help understand how the team experienced it. We designed a survey that both measured and uncovered the experience. We ran this survey at the beginning of the journey and repeated with some core red thread questions periodically over the ensuing years.
This approach enabled us to identify the status of the key transformation levers, the sentiment of the team members and the common threads explaining the reasons for the colleagues responses.
We connected these insight layers to support and inform the Leaders interventions with team members.
By establishing a clear baseline for where the journey started the leader was able to understand the impact of the operating model changes to the key business levers. These connected to sentiment across the team, sites and countries, measured, tracked and understood over time enabled informed decision making, learning and course correction as required.
